Independent software engineering

Build what your business needs. Avoid costly detours. Put AI agents to work.

Poor technical decisions can waste budget, delay launches, expose sensitive data, or leave AI projects delivering little value. FM ByteShift helps businesses build software that fits their needs, reduce security risks, and turn AI opportunities into working solutions. You work directly with the engineer responsible for taking the solution from initial decisions through delivery and validation.

Where engineering creates value

Solve the problems that cost time, money, and confidence.

Whether you're building a product, protecting important business operations, or exploring AI, the goal is to avoid expensive missteps and invest in solutions that solve real problems.

Build software that fits your business

When software doesn't match the way your business operates, people create workarounds and changes become harder than they should be. Build applications around your actual workflows and goals, so software supports the work instead of getting in the way.

Reduce the risk of costly security incidents

A weakness in your software can expose customer data, enable unauthorized actions, disrupt operations, and damage trust. Identify important risks and build appropriate protection into your software before weaknesses become incidents.

Make AI useful without adding unnecessary risk

Use AI agents and automation to reduce repetitive work, connect systems, and support business processes. The solution should have a clear purpose and appropriate limits on the information it can access and the actions it can take.

Core services

From business challenge to a solution that works.

Build software that fits your operations, reduce security risks, or find practical ways to use AI. The work starts with what you're trying to achieve and what could prevent you from getting there.

01 / SOFTWARE ENGINEERING

Software Engineering & Architecture

Build software around your business needs instead of forcing your processes into the wrong solution. Good decisions early can reduce rework, make future changes easier, and help your investment deliver lasting value.

  • Custom software development
  • Software architecture and system design
  • System integration and legacy modernization

02 / APPLICATION SECURITY

Application Security

Reduce the risk of data exposure, unauthorized activity, and disruption. Understand how your application could be abused, which weaknesses matter most, and how to make security part of the solution.

  • Application security assessments
  • Identification and analysis of security risks
  • Secure design and implementation

03 / AI, AI AGENTS & AUTOMATION

AI Integration & AI Agents

Turn promising AI ideas into solutions that perform useful work. Identify where automation can save effort, connect existing systems, and account for reliability, data access, and the actions agents can take.

  • AI-enabled applications and AI agents
  • Workflow and system automation
  • Integration, permissions, and security safeguards

Selected experience & technical work

Experience solving consequential engineering problems.

Years of professional software engineering and independent projects provide experience across different challenges. These examples show the kinds of problems addressed, from complex systems to application security and AI.

Software engineering

Keep complex systems useful as needs change

Architecture, integrations, and modernization work help software keep pace with changing business requirements while accounting for operational constraints and the cost of disruption.

Application security

Turn security findings into better protection

Investigating how application weaknesses can be exploited and understanding their underlying causes helps businesses make better-informed decisions about protecting applications and sensitive information.

AI agents & secure engineering

Understand the risks before trusting AI agents with real work

Independent hands-on work examines how AI-enabled applications can expose data or take unauthorized actions, alongside practical safeguards and ways to check whether they work.

How I work

Reduce uncertainty before committing time and budget.

You don't need a fully defined scope to start a conversation. An initial assessment helps clarify what you're trying to achieve, what could get in the way, and which next steps make the most sense before you commit to a project.

Understand the goal

Clarify what you're trying to achieve, what is at stake, and which constraints matter. This keeps the work focused on a useful outcome rather than activity for its own sake.

Compare practical options

Explore sensible approaches, trade-offs, and risks before committing significant time or budget to a particular direction.

Define a useful scope

Establish what work is needed, what success looks like, and whether the next step involves software development, architecture, application security, or AI.

Deliver and validate

When implementation is part of the engagement, work directly on the agreed solution and check it against the requirements. Where relevant, this includes validating security controls after deployment.

Start with a complimentary initial assessment. We'll discuss the business challenge and possible next steps, with no obligation to proceed. Detailed audits, penetration tests, code reviews, production hardening, and formal reports are scoped separately.

A proof of concept, at no cost for selected projects. For selected projects, a focused PoC can test a key idea or technical approach before you commit to a larger build. Where appropriate, it can become the foundation for the first version of your software, rather than a throwaway prototype. Further development and production requirements are scoped separately.

About FM ByteShift

Experienced engineering focused on what matters.

FM ByteShift Software helps businesses build software that fits their operations, reduce application security risks, and find practical uses for AI and AI agents. The goal is to avoid expensive missteps and deliver solutions that address real business needs.

You work directly with an experienced software engineer from understanding the challenge and evaluating options through architecture, implementation, deployment, and validation. That keeps technical decisions connected to the business outcome and avoids leaving recommendations disconnected from delivery.

Alongside client work, I build independent software and intelligence projects across market intelligence and cybersecurity, including hands-on work with AI-enabled applications. I have also published two technical books sharing software engineering principles with developers.
